Rain
The first drops
gently
spattered the soil.
The wild flowers drank them in
greedily.
Drizzle.
The occasional twisted story,
generous with the truth.
Now and again, an … erm … “alternative fact”.
A few blatant lies hid themselves among the drops that were slowly becoming heavier,
while barely anyone noticed how wet they were getting.
Suddenly,
the wind awoke from its slumber,
swiftly
violently
working its way up to an uncontrolled swirling frenzy.
The lies became bolder.
The denials louder,
as they crashed through the flimsy protective glass
shattering it into tiny useless pieces,
while the people stood
naked
shivering
in their homes that they had once assumed
offered security and order and peace
to shelter them from life’s incessant torrent of violence.
The once beautiful colourful fields of wild flowers
were defenceless against the raging storms and floods of
lies and deceit
and greed and prejudice
and ignorance.
Now.
Mud,
into which birds
sucked into the force of the storm
had come crashing down from the sky.
Joined by animals,
now helpless wingless flying beasts desperately clinging to a life,
yet
knowing
they were without a chance in the hell that this earth
their home
had become.
Mud. Blood. Tears.
The poisoned soil of rotting innards.
Shit.
Fields of shit
self-pollinating
waiting for the next storm
to spread their cancer far and wide
poisoning the minds and souls
of generations to come,
who would have no idea what was happening to them.
I awoke.
Sweating.
Rubbing the sleep from my eyes,
I took in the sun beaming in a bright blue sky.
Green grass, nourished by the gentle rain
glistening around me as I lay there.
Berries ripening in the bushes.
Birds chirping.
Sheep bleating.
Children laughing.
The dream?
The nightmare?
Life?
What is real?
Nothing
lasts forever.

Wonderful!
